Students playing chess

Greetings Rincon Community,

At the heart of every thriving school is a strong sense of belonging and safety—both emotional and physical. A school goal this year is to foster a safe equitable culture and climate by strengthening students’, staffs’, & families’ sense of belonging as valued learners and leaders. Therefore we are placing a renewed focus on using advisory time as a meaningful space to build and nurture these essential foundations for every student.

Advisory is more than just a time to check in—it's a daily opportunity to strengthen relationships, create consistent and caring connections, and help students feel seen, heard, and valued. When students feel safe and that they belong, they are more engaged, more willing to take risks in learning, and more prepared to handle challenges.

To support this important work, we are excited to integrate specific research-based social emotional learning lessons into our advisory program.

  • Recognizing and managing emotions

  • Building empathy and understanding different perspectives

  • Resolving conflict peacefully and making responsible decisions

  • Developing positive peer relationships and communication skills

These are not just classroom skills—they are life skills that help create a school culture where respect, kindness, and collaboration are the norm.

Advisory is not the only place where a sense of belonging is being fostered and these skills are practiced, our counseling and social worker host special lunch events like LUNCH BUNCH and this week, Loteria at Lunch in honor of Hispanic Heritage month. Through these activities, students engage in play but also foster authentic conversations and connections. It is a safe and inclusive space to play, build social skills and develop sense of community.

Our goal is that our learners know - You matter. You belong. You are safe here.

Together we are better in setting up our Bulldogs up to B.A.R.K (Believe, Achieve, Respect, and Kindness) for success!

With gratitude,

Principal Meglich
