Earth Day Recycling Art Contest

The Earth Day Recycling Art Contest is an opportunity for K-8 students in Escondido to exercise their creativity by looking at “trash” in new ways and to consider the life cycle of disposable goods.

The 2026 contest theme “What Earth Day Means to ME!” asks student artists to consider how and why we celebrate our planet on this special day each year, and create a 3-D art piece from recycled and repurposed materials to express that. The poster or 3-D art piece on sturdy paper must be no larger than 12 inches by 18 inches, and must have the student's full name, grade, teacher's name and email address, student's home phone number, and school written on the back of the poster.

All entries must be submitted by February 27, 2026. All 9 finalists (3 in each age group) receive prizes! Gift cards, restaurant coupons, and more! The 3 finalists from each age group will also have their artwork displayed during the month of April at the Escondido Arts Partnership Municipal Gallery.

Tips:
Recycled items can have a whole new look if they are painted, or broken up into smaller pieces. Hot glue is a great fastener for heavier materials - please ask for adult assistance. Materials used in past posters include: egg cartons, bottle caps, scrap paper, puzzle pieces, popsicle sticks, milk cartons, toilet paper rolls, etc.
